The 1st meeting of the Quality Improvement Plan 2023 Monitoring Meetings, which was organized for monitoring and evaluating the "Gazi University Quality Improvement Plan" with stakeholder units, was held with the participation of our faculties under the chairmanship of Vice-Rector and Deputy Chairman of the Quality Commission Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır. The meeting was held on 12.09.2023 in the Rectorate Meeting Hall with the participation of Secretary-General Ragıp Akyürek, Faculty Deans, Quality Commission Members, Quality Coordination and Strategy Development Board Working Group representatives.
In the opening speech at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Quality Commission and Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır stated that we are one of the 3 state universities among 30 higher education institutions in 2022 that succeeded in receiving 5-year Full Institutional Accreditation with the evaluation of Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC). Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır also expressed that we, as a research university, managed to rise from category A3 to category A2 in the research universities ranking. It was emphasized by the Vice-Rector that this success was reached as a result of a determined and devoted effort. Emphasizing that the sustainability of the success, which was achieved with great efforts of the whole university, should be our main priority, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır underlined that as Gazi University family, we would continue our work without slowing down. Also, he stated that institutional accreditation and systematic monitoring studies are of great importance in the success of the research university. It was also announced that as of the date of September 19, unit visits would be held for Monitoring, Evaluation and Sustainability meetings under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Rector of Gazi University.
Stating that the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), one of the exemplary practices of Gazi University, has been implemented, monitored and evaluated with determination since 2021, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır pointed out that the QIP is a guarantee showing that systematic improvement is made in all processes at the university.
Every year the QIP based on the findings of the Institutional Internal Evaluation Report, Institutional External Evaluation/Monitoring/Institutional Accreditation Report findings, institutional survey results applied by the Quality Commission and stakeholder opinions was discussed and decided upon first in the Commission Working Groups and then in the Commission of the university. After that, the QIP was served upon all the units of Gazi University. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır stated that the staff in charge of the improvement activities at the university and their schedule were announced to the public. It was reminded that by making 6-month monitoring and presenting an annual evaluation of the plan, each PDCA cycle was closed. That situation has provided the opportunity to start a new activity. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır thanked all the units who supported the implementation of this application we have successfully carried out as an institution.
Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır also stated that the Quality Improvement Plan 2023 Monitoring Meetings would be held in 7 groups and attended by all the units of our university. It was expressed that these meetings have three main purposes. One of the main purposes is to enable the units at the university to share their success with other units. The second purpose is to plan the 2024 improvements together and the third one is to achieve institutional goals for the works that are still unfinished before the end of the year. Deputy Chairman of the Quality Commission Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır reminded that the units should share the QIP Monitoring presentations they prepared, especially in their academic boards. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır expressed that it would be useful to share it with other stakeholders such as students and the advisory board. It was explained that the compilation of good practice examples in the quality studies of the units to be reflected throughout the institution was included within the scope of QIP with the decision of the Quality Commission. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır announced that Quality Assurance System Good Practice Examples would be compiled through the medium of the forms that would be presented to the units with the support of our Mentor members.
It was reminded in the speech that feedback visits were made to all academic units in June with the Quality Coordination and Quality Commission delegations. Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır explained that the Unit Visits Report and Feedback Survey Analysis Report prepared by Institutional Quality Coordinators were published on the Commission website and all the documents would be forwarded to all units with an act. Also, all the units were required to deliver these reports to the relevant stakeholders.
Vice-Rector and Deputy Chairman of the Quality Commission Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır concluded his remarks by thanking the academic unit managers for their contributions to maintaining our success in becoming a Fully Accredited Research University and to the continuous improvement of our quality assurance system. Then Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır gave the floor to the unit managers to make their presentations.

Dr. Asiye UĞRAŞ DİKMEN and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Mehmet ÇAKMAK informed the participants about the improvement activities carried out by the units in the first six months of 2023 within the scope of the QIP.
